Support for Women, Trans, and Nonbinary Folks

Women, nonbinary and trans folks face unique challenges in mental health, due to living in a society that does not treat us as equal to men. Gender inequality shows up in a million ways in the US, and can cut away at our self-worth, let alone our incomes, benefits, healthcare access, safety and much more. In our work together, we can discuss the ways that this toxic culture has impacted you, and work towards loving yourself enough to say "no" to being devalued wherever possible.

This work is complex, and is often woven together with other topics and goals. Sometimes it precedes other work we can do if there are ongoing safety concerns at play. We can look at strategies for equalizing your relationships with men in your life, and noticing and addressing other power imbalances as well. We may focus on learning to identify and voice your own needs, building self-esteem, implementing boundaries, building safe and supportive connections, and learning to advocate for your rights and the rights of all genders.

I wish I could say that we can “fix” these problems in therapy, but of course, we can’t. That requires change on a scale that we can’t reach alone. However I hope to empower my clients to carve out a little space in the world where they can stand tall and powerful in the hope that that will spread to more and more people experiencing oppression.
